A Truth Journal: Who Should Be In Charge of Those Drones Bombing Terrorists: CIA or Pentagon?

Drone State?

A Truth Journal: Who Should Be In Charge of Those Drones Bombing Terrorists: CIA or Pentagon?: From Denny:  Can it be the CIA numbers more poor judgment cowboys than the Pentagon?  It sure looks like President Obama seems to think so over the objections of the Senators who overseer the intelligence community and the drone program.  These senators are arguing in favor of keeping the current two-pronged version of the drone program with the CIA in addition to the Pentagon.

From Sen. Diane Feinstein (D-CA), Chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, expresses little confidence the Defense Department (DOD) would exercise the same restraint with the controversial drone program that the CIA has exhibited admirably.

And Sen. Feinstein boldly stated this to the Defense News, "We've watched the intelligence aspect of the drone program, how they function, the quality of the intelligence, watching the [CIA] agency exercise patience and discretion.  The military [armed drone] program has not done that nearly as well."

A Truth Journal: Wall Street Bankers Pressuring EU Cyprus Bailout, Causing Run on Banks?

A Truth Journal: Wall Street Bankers Pressuring EU Cyprus Bailout, Causing Run on Banks?: From Denny:  What a political and financial mess.  Germany at the helm of insistence and the EU bankers actually thought they could slap a 10 percent tax to fund a bailout for the country's banks on all depositors in Cyprus and not get any real push back.  You see, the cover story was that Germany and the EU bankers didn't want to underwrite the Russian oligarchs since 40 percent of Cyprus' banks contain money from foreigners.

Cyprus is commonly suspected as a money laundering site and tax evasion for Russian criminals.  What these greedy bankers got for their stupid move was a run on the all the banks as people flooded the ATM machines to withdraw all of their cash they could retrieve.  That was the fun on the weekend because the banks had frozen everyone's accounts and then closed on Monday to prevent getting at their own funds.  Wouldn't that make you angry too?

A Truth Journal: XL Keystone Pipeline: Why Should America Take All The Risks and No Benefits?

XL Pipeline Protest
XL Pipeline Protest (Photo credit: Talk Radio News Service)

A Truth Journal: XL Keystone Pipeline: Why Should America Take All The Risks and No Benefits?: From Denny:  Once again greedy Big Business seeks to hang the American taxpayers with all the liabilities - while they make billions in profits, free to walk away when it goes bad.

The XL Keystone Pipeline is a huge boondoggle that comes out of Canada.  Apparently, the Canadian firm, TransCanada, along with some American energy partners sum up their business mantra in one chant, "Let the Americans pay for it!"

Our State Department has been on a fool's errand writing up a study on the impact on America's environment, concluding it would not be a problem, in order to act like they are satisfying the environment folks.  As usual, everyone rivets their focus upon the distraction, taking their eye off the obvious.

A Truth Journal: Hassled Chuck Hagel Won Vote, Starts 1st Day as Sec. of Defense

Chuck Hagel--the new Secretary of Defense-- does a victory lap after trouncing the Rabid Right that tried too hard to trump up a case against him

A Truth Journal: Hassled Chuck Hagel Won Vote, Starts 1st Day as Sec. of Defense: From Denny:  After a nasty and outrageously contentious beatdown from his fellow Republicans intent on punishing him for publicly disagreeing with Bush 43's Iraq War, Chuck Hagel found at least four Republicans willing to vote for him yesterday.

The Social Poets: Obama Step Aside: Should Hillary Clinton Replace Him for 2012?

Official portrait of Secretary of State Hillar...
Image via Wikipedia
The Social Poets: Obama Step Aside: Should Hillary Clinton Replace Him for 2012?: From Denny: Voters are severely dissatisfied with both the GOP candidates and President Obama. Because of a rocky economy, 36 million foreclosed homes dumped onto the market since 2007 plummeting home values for everyone not foreclosed (another 20 million foreclosures on their way) - and uncertain employment - everyone is looking elsewhere for answers and real leadership.

The name of Hillary Clinton is on the lips - and in the hearts - of many Democrats disillusioned with the Obama term. Many women are looking for more women in government to meet their needs instead of the current male dominated politicians playing ego games and stuffing their wallets while in office.

The Social Poets: Funny Jon Stewart, Colbert React to Republican Debates

The Social Poets: Funny Jon Stewart, Colbert React to Republican Debates: From Denny: Only Jon Stewart could dissect this crazy GOP line-up, revealing true agendas. When he goes after Michele Bachmann for her idea of mothering it sure is a left field what she says.

You expect her to comment on how raising five biological children and 23 foster children she would opine upon parenting skills in the area of how they needed lots of love and daily structure. Nope. What she says is "children need jobs." No kidding.

What I found most disheartening about her quote about children of poverty - from a over a year ago - is when she commented about how the poor should raise themselves up on their own, without government help - ever.

"Hunger is a great motivator." From that day forward I always wondered if she had starved any of those foster children to force them to do what she demanded.

Check out some stellar political cartoons chronicling social issues and politics throughout the year, news analysis and opinion.

From Denny:  What a list of news that happened this year! Whew! Sometimes the news and politics were as toxic as the weather - and we all felt like we needed government issue gas masks. Take a look at some of the highlights:

Haiti earthquake
Volcanic eruptions in Iceland and Indonesia
BP Oil Spill Disaster in the Gulf of Mexico (my backyard in Louisiana)
Floods around the world
North Korea threatening to launch nukes
Finally getting the beginnings of a national health bill reform in America - which needs a lot of tinkering to perfect
Another woman appointed to the Supreme Court - not before the GOP humiliated her publicly and drug her through the mud for not being Christian enough - she's Jewish.
WikiLeaks documents released about the Afghan War
Unemployment high around the world like in America and the world economy floundering
Obama's popularity up and down, according to which fool he is listening to as the It Advisor Of The Moment.
The Republicans marching goose step as The Party of No Conscience, No Sense and Don't Care About the Middle Class

Friday Lite: Best Of Funny TSA Cartoons - 26 Nov 2010

Check out what America is thinking about those TSA Pat Downs supposedly guarding us against terrorism.

From Denny: Ready to laugh? The cartoonists have had a field day with the missteps of our government and especially the TSA public insensitivity promoting their idiot policies. Americans are growing more and more uncomfortable and angry about these policies.

Just this month the Pilots Association declared the airport scanners as unsafe and got exemptions for their pilots and airline crews to completely bypass security checkpoints. Our government leaders also do not have to be subjected to the security protocols either. So now passengers have to wonder a lot more than about the people riding next to them. They have to wonder about whether or not the pilot, the crew and government leaders were compromised by terrorists.

Yeah, and these are the Bozos who are determining our national security. Sweet, huh? What kind of reasoning is this? If the airport scanners are unhealthy and unsafe then no one should be going through them.  Meanwhile, the nation's cartoonists are lampooning these idiot decisions and arrogant promotions of this unsafe technology - knowing there is someone is the shadows making wads of cash from the sale of these airport scanners to the government.  Big Business continues to run wild, unchecked by any restraints of reason or common sense.

The truth is that the TSA has never succeeded in catching any of the terrorists. Who did? Ordinary citizens keeping their eyes open and their minds thinking. Just to mention a couple of news items: The shoe bomber was stopped by a quick-thinking passenger who foiled the plot - as the airline attendant was still questioning the man while he attempted to strike the bomb. A street vendor in New York City spotted the suspicious van loaded with a bomb in front of Toys 'R' Us store for children and called police. The list goes on.

The TSA policies are literally overkill and violate civil rights and public health.  The only tested and proven most effective method of airport security is to get serious about proper profiling like the Israelis employ.  They manage to do it without racial profiling.  There is no reason we cannot do the same.

France got rid of their backscatter airport scanners because of public outrage and concern over public health.  They installed scanners that employ radio waves to detect if anyone needs additional screening.  These scanners do not threaten your health nor invade your personal privacy.  Why can't America employ these machines instead of the invasive radiating ones?

Check out how the TSA and the airport security checks are quickly becoming part of the national culture for humorists:

Check out news, political opinion, political humor and funny cartoons, recipes, poetry, funny posts, photography, spiritual thoughts and great quotes.

From Denny: All this weekend - and early this week - I've had the usual case of "Fall Fever." Who really wants to stay inside after a dreadful summer of weirdly high heat and humidity? When Louisiana weather calms down to cooler temperatures at night and low humidity during the day it's, well, irresistible. And the blogging just had to wait this weekend.

It was also a case of cleaning up all the overgrown "everything" in the flower beds since it's been several months - when it was so hot and humid medical professionals were telling everyone it was too hard on your heart to be out in the heat doing hard workouts.

Anyway, my crazy plants thank you for your patience. They now have newly planted homes since there were so many of them multiplying they had to move out from their parents' homes and into new places in the yard. Purple irises love to spread the love.

Chocolate Mint has pink trumpet flowers Photo by Denny Lyon

The party down plants are the chocolate mint. They are indestructible - whether it's flooding rain waters or drought - these crazy plants just keep on thriving! I'm wondering if they are the comedians of the plant kingdom.

What's nice about chocolate mint is that hummingbirds love them as much as those fat bumblebees. When pollinating insects were rare the past couple of years, well, it must have been because they were all partying over in my yard.

Try crushing the leaves of the chocolate mint in your hands and you get this light chocolate scent wafting up into the breeze along with a faint mint companion. You can even cut back chocolate mint and treat it like a low growing shrub or let it go hog wild and it looks like a two foot tall grass. Definitely a cool plant.

I've come to the conclusion that all artists must be gardeners. It's just such an irresistible canvas to play with and shift and change at will. Of course, the mud factor is definitely appealing too. :)

Get your political fix.

Happy Halloween!

From Denny: The weekend is a good time to catch up on political news and opinion. Here's some of what was covered this week. I developed this political blog just for international political junkies like myself and not clutter up this blog too much. Most people come to The Social Poets to read a bit of poetry and laugh at witty quotes and catch up on some cartoons or lighter news. Take a look and see if there is anything you missed!

I'm still working on fine tuning the political blog as I'd like to cover more international news, opinion and analysis. There's plenty of opinion "out there" but too much is garbage thinking or garbage writing so I'm still looking around for responsible thinkers and writers. There is a lot of hype to wade through to find the jewels. :) If you know of some quality sites to feature, please pass it along. (I'd be eternally grateful!)

And, again, thank you for your continued support, much appreciated! It's fun to write on a variety of subjects for you!
