From Denny: Presidents' Day comes and goes in a flash. Some years it's wildly popular generating interesting articles and other years, well, no one cares. Seems like this year is one of those off years for interest, especially with the winter Olympics in full swing in Sochi, Russia, garnering so much attention.
Poking around online I found some amusing - and downright weird - facts about the U. S. Presidents you may not know - just when you thought you heard it all. Yeah, trivia kings and queens live at our house.

From Denny: Today is the day we honor the mothers in our lives. Sometimes, those mothering women are our fond memories of those who helped us to become better and stronger people today.
They may be our biological or adoptive mothers, grandmothers, aunts, older friends who mentored us, fabulous school teachers. Whoever the best women are in your lives, take a moment today and this week to enjoy the best of what they gave to you.

From Denny: Mardi Gras just happened last month, and, well, Lent can be a dull affair while we are waiting for Easter. So, why not spice it up with some St. Patrick's Day frivolity and celebration?
South Louisiana is primarily Catholic and we like our champion demon-chasing warrior saints. Honoring him is serious business.
Here in Louisiana we celebrate with none other than a St. Patrick's Day Parade, complete with official bead-throwing and green beer freely flowing.
Since all good holy days have a serious component along with the feasting here's some brain food to feed you too. Be sure to check out my other St. Patrick's Day posts at the end of this post. Lots of interesting historical trivia, quotes, poems, Irish blessings and funny thoughts too.

Get a grin at the comedy routine of competing House Speakers from both sides of the political aisle. The tough guy GOP Speaker is reduced to tears - by a savvy woman.
From Denny: Talk about entertaining. In this SNL comedy skit the fake Speaker Pelosi gets back at Speaker Boehner for reducing her gavel down to a teeny weeny pink gavel while he sports a huge honking outsized sledgehammer gavel. She keeps mentioning various situations she knows will make Boehner start his weeping jags for which he is so famously known.

SNL Skit: Nancy Pelosi Demonstrates What Makes John Boehner Cry
Comic Kristen Wiig played Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Bill Hader played Speaker Jon Boehner, pretending to be guests on Weekend Update on Saturday Night Live. The skit goes that Nancy presents John with the Speaker's gavel, you know the outgoing Speaker gives over the political symbol of the gavel to the incoming Speaker.
Of course, the fake Boehner decides he will reciprocate a gavel to now Minority Speaker Pelosi, so he gifts her with a teeny, tiny girly pink gavel. Of course, not to be outdone on that one, Nancy makes a decision of her own: She gives John Boehner something to really cry about since weeping is for what he is so famously known. They don't call her Competition Nancy for no reason. Tiny gavel but Big Mind. I want her on my team!
